Tree Assessment

A free service, included in your initial site visit in order to provide you with a free, no obligation quote.

This is an Assessment of the tree’s physical condition, looking at the structure and health of the tree. It will involve looking at the Tree Stem, Branch Attachment, Crown & Leaves which then allows an evaluation of the tree as a functioning biological organism. Recommendations can then be made to limit the risk of any potential safety risks and ensure the continued health and overall look of the tree.

Tree Preservation Order (TPO) & Conservation Area Advice

Complete Tree Removal and Felling

There are a number of reasons why it may be necessary to completely remove a tree. Either the tree is diseased, dead or needs to be removed for safety reasons. Sometimes trees need to be removed for aesthetic reasons or to make way for new developments. If it is safe to do so and there is enough space, this can be achieved by directional felling. When there is not sufficient space to fell a tree intact, we carry out a controlled ‘sectional fell’ where the tree is dismantled in sections from the top down. Where necessary, sectional felling is undertaken using lowering ropes and pulleys to safely control every stage of the removal.

Crown Thinning

Crown Thinning involves the removal of secondary and small live branches throughout the crown of the tree. This will increase light levels and reduce wind resistance to leave the tree with an overall balanced branch structure whilst retaining its original size and shape.

Crown Reduction

A Crown Reduction involves reducing the overall crown/canopy and therefore the height of the tree. We do this by reducing the crown area from the tips of the branches to suitable growth points.

Tree Surgery

Crown Lifting

Crown lifting involves the removal of lower branches, this may be because the branches are causing an obstruction or it may be purely for aesthetic reasons. We carry out this operation by either removing whole branches or parts of branches that extend below the desired height.

Deadwood Management

Deadwood Management involves the removal of dead, broken, split branches and old stubs. This may be for safety reasons but also benefits the overall health of the tree and will increase light levels, reduce wind resistance and leave the tree with an overall balanced branch structure whilst retaining its original size and shape.

Formative Pruning

Formative Pruning is minor pruning during the early years of a trees growth to establish the desired form and/or to correct defects or weaknesses that may affect the structure later in life.

Pollarding

Pollarding is a tree maintenance technique that can be used to control tree size that involves the removal of all limbs back to the main trunk. The tree is then allowed to re-grow after the initial cutting. Pollarding then requires regular re-pruning every 2 to 5 years.
